4th Annual Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest

Electronics Recycling Services - CompuCycle

The 4th Annual Mayor’s Back to School Fest was held on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the University of Houston.

The event’s purpose was to aid economically disadvantaged students grades K-5, who reside in the City of Houston, to prepare for the new school year. The Back to School Fest is a great opportunity for families to experience an array of resources and tools students need to start off the school year right. Backpacks, immunizations, basic school supplies, and more are donated by multiple corporations in the Houston community to help make this event a success.

Annise Parker, the mayor of the city, attended the festival and welcomed thousands of students along with their families and guardians. The students were pre-registered but belonged to underprivileged families with weak financial status. The festival started off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by hours of equipping the students with the basic and necessary school supplies. Like CompuCycle, many other sponsor organizations, volunteers, agencies, and donors were present at the 4th edition of the festival.

Only the families who had pre-registered were allowed to attend the festival. However, the students and their families who missed out can still call the United Way Helpline, and they will be guided towards assistance through different community agencies.

This year, CompuCycle was ecstatic to be a part of as well as a sponsor for the Mayor’s Back to School Fest. Other sponsors included: University of Houston, Kroger, Undies for Everyone, FirstService Residential, Summit Dental Center, Texas Children’s Health Plan, CenterPoint Energy, Comcast, Fiesta Mart, CHI St. Luke’s Medical Center, TAM International Inc., Union Pacific Railroad, Kelsey-Seybold Clinics, KBR, MetroPCS, UPS, Capital One Bank, The Felix, and Angela Morales Memorial Foundation, Delta Dental of California, Blue Cross/Blue Shield Care Van, Smart Financial Credit Union, Texas Barber Colleges & Hairstyling Schools, Texas Exposition Services, Walgreens, Academy Sports & Outdoors, Simple Tech Solutions, Fallas Paredes, Your Logo, CESI, American Textile Recycling Service, Whole Foods, CompuCycle, and Walmart. The donor companies were Shell and Motiva Enterprises LLC.

The event was great, and it was refreshing to experience such passion for helping out and working as a closely-knit community. The mayor, as well as the volunteers, donors, and people representing the sponsor companies were all very generous and genuinely enjoyed their efforts. CompuCycle always supports such activities and acts of kindness and generosity. We organize our own events as well to spread awareness about the environmental damage that e-waste causes. We are an e-Stewards certified electronics recycling company that performs computer waste disposal and shredding of other electronics. The processes followed at our facility are environmentally friendly and compliant with the local and international standards and regulations.

We work towards a better future, whether it is through electronics recycling, responsible computer waste disposal, or helping underprivileged students. CompuCycle takes part in many such activities and events across the year and is committed and dedicated to building a future that is greener and better.

We conduct recycling drives where individuals can dispose of their electronics with us. Our recycling drive on the Earth Day of 2014 managed to secure the world record for the most number of electronics recycled within 8 hours at a single venue. We also conduct conferences, workshops, and seminars, etc., to equip Houstonians with the knowledge and resources to become better e-recyclers. Consumers and residents can drop off the electronic devices that they do not anymore at our drop-off facility throughout the year. Businesses, big or small, can get in touch with us, and we will schedule the pickup of their old IT assets.

The confidential, sensitive, and private data stored on your old electronics is safe and secure with us as we perform data destruction through processes that are NIST compliant. By giving your old electronics to us, you contribute to our efforts to responsibly dispose of e-waste and resell reusable electronics. All the processes followed at our facility are friendly and safe towards the environment.

CompuCycle wishes all students, facilities, and parents a great academic achievement in this 2014-2015 school year. We are always there to extend support to any Houstonian that needs it. We are committed and dedicated to making the future prosperous and safe. Our team members are all very passionate about what they do, and we believe that a strong and tightly-knit community can make Houston a better place to live in. We thank the mayor of Houston, Annise Parker, for organizing such a wonderful event and appreciate all the supporters and donors’ efforts to make it a success. CompuCycle resolutes to always take part in all kinds of constructive activities, whenever possible, in the future. Let us take control of our and our future generations’ lives and make them beautiful.
